Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we spent our time living for what we can do now instead of fretting over some unknowable posthumous future?

Absolutely

The problem is so many believe that their way is the right way instead of following the way of love ,kindness compassion and understanding.

Unfortunately those things require effort

But hey nothing sells like sex, greed ,hell, damnation and of course redemption.
