Chapter 8

The court was full at least two rows from the back there were empty. My father looked sternly as he stood alone off to the side. As our eyes met I could feel his anger.

His voice deep and grumbling “ you know what this is doing to your mother.” I bowed my head as tears rolled down my cheek , I quickly wiped them away and when I looked back he was gone.

I guess he could not stand to watch his baby girl fall into this pit of hell.

My attorney ushered me right to the front past all of those waiting for their moment in front of the judge.

Mike and Dale stood stone faced by their attorneys. They were dressed in suits it looked like they had fresh hair cuts . The whole look made both appear much older . Which surprised me Because they looked very sharp. We took our place.

All rise for Judge Anthony Spelling

Before I could say a word my attorney tapped my hand as to say sit still. Hevwalked up the the judge to join mike and dales attorneys who already engaged in talking quietly to the judge. For a moment they seem to be smiling like old friends chatting reminiscing about a recent fishing trip ,like regular guys admiring their catch drinking beer, down by their favorite fishing hole. But suddenly as it appeared those joyful expressions were gone. Dales attorney leaned in and pounded his hand on the judges stand then turned shaking his head , he didn’t look happy anymore as he returned to his seat next to Dale.

Oh this wasn’t going to be good.I said outloud ,

My attorney took his seat next to me and rested his hand on my hand. I looked up at him. The tears I couldn’t control streamed down my cheeks ,,he said

“ You will be alright dear they excepted our offer. Just hold tight.”

Mike bursted out, “ No fuckin way”

The judge “ order in the court “ his voice reverberated through out the court room. Everyone was silent except Mike. His vanes perturbed from under his skin. I glanced at Dale he was shaking his head now. His eyes met mine and we both lowered them to the floor.

Chapter nine

After many years I still felt guilty about everything that happened but honestly I was only an accomplice after the fact. I didn’t know anything about what went on , and why or how this even happened before the encounter with that poor old man who lost his life. I didn’t have any information other than were these two had buried the body. And even that I didn’t know exactly where . All I really knew was an approximation and the bridge on rt. 4. I didn’t even know which side of the bridge upstream or down. And the memories of that experience still haunt me. Sometimes I think God will punish me good for this going one step further in that line of thinking blaming it for unrelated circumstances and blaming myself or my situation when things aren’t going my way.

The lights came on and wirl of the fan in the slide projector slowed to a stop.

Can I get you something to drink Mom my daughter asked.

I shook my head no thank you dear.

Come here my child sit next to me ,,I patted the chair next to me.

“ There is something you need to hear” You probably wonder why I have been going to that doctor for the past year.” My daughter shook her head but I knew better. I want to fill you in on something I have keep from you.” I want you to listen up good you hear.” She nodded “My baby you mean so much to me I know you may find this hard to believe but I was like you once.” I brushed her hair away from her beautiful little face. God I don’t want to hurt her but she must know for her own good, if not for mine.
